Even though today is April 15th, it’s not the dreaded TAX DAY.
Yep, you heard me right! For filing 2010 taxes, the dreaded TAX DAY is Monday, April 18th, 2011.
According to the source of all sources for income tax related stuff, the IRS: “Taxpayers have an extra weekend to file this year because of a District of Columbia holiday. The deadline for 2011 is Monday April 18, instead of April 15”
That’s right, you can thank the District of Columbia’s Emancipation Day holiday observance for extending your tax deadline by three days this year.
So, will the new TAX DAY be April 18th forever and ever?
According to CNN.com: “Emancipation Day falls on Sat., April 16, but it is observed in D.C. on Fri., April 15. That prompted the IRS to extend the tax filing deadline to April 18 this year. Under the tax code, filing deadlines can’t fall on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. “
